Massively Mobile is a developer of video games and related technologies for mobile devices. We started in 2005 as a group of gaming industry veterans with backgrounds that spanned a wide array of gaming platforms and a shared belief about the direction of the field. For all the talk of "convergence" across PC, console, and mobile technologies, we found that the gameplay experiences on those devices have remained very separate. Instead of giving players brand new challenges, or the chance to enter the worlds of their favorite games in a new way, most mobile games seemed to be either meticulously duplicated or ridiculously simplified versions of titles offered on other platforms. That's just bizarre. Who wants to play Game X Mobile: Smaller and Not as Fun? We don't. So we started to think about what we would like to play on a mobile device, and our answers had a lot in common: why not make mobile games that wouldn't try to force other platforms' rules onto their users? How about mobile games that utilize the unique advantages of the platform, like ubiquitous networking? What about mobile games that could talk to each other – or to console, PC, or MMO games – over the network that they all already connect to? Mobile games like that would offer players experiences they've never had, give in-game characters a life outside of their embedded platforms, and give publishers the opportunity to convert one-time customers into multiplatform brand loyalists. Sounds pretty good, right? We thought so too. That's why we formed Massively Mobile, and that's what we do now. |
